Training — with excuses
Hello! I'm Alex, a Currumbin-based personal trainer. I specialise in building strength, overcoming gym anxiety, navigating barriers and developing healthier mindsets around exercise and dieting.

Move Better.
Live Better.
Before I joined a gym, I hated exercise. Every circuit workout left me incapacitated for days. When my heart rate would go through the roof, I was told I just needed to do more (never mind having run every day for a full year, trying to get better). At 23, I was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome — a connective tissue disorder that affects your joints. Along with a cohort of co-morbidities, finally all those quirks had an answer.
A few months into strength training with a friend for fun, I noticed my subluxations and pain were subsiding. I fell in love with training — but had to learn how to train for my body, not for a normally-functioning-body. When your ligaments don't support your joints properly, "just push through it" can cause permanent damage. Training is both the cure and the cause of pain — the difference is in having the understanding of how to train for your needs.
I became a personal trainer so I could give the kind of guidance I needed years ago: someone who understands how your body works so you can train smarter, avoid injuries, and progress faster. I've been blessed with getting to know some wonderful people in the past few years, and am now undertaking a bachelor of Exercise Physiology in order to expand my ability to help you move and live better than you ever thought possible.
My approach
What makes training with me different
My ethos
We don't all have the same 24 hours. Sometimes there is an excuse. Let's train anyway.
How does that look in practice?
We work together not just with exercise and nutrition, but with your mindset. Understanding what your capacity is, and making modifications to enable you to be consistent. No “all or nothing” but instead, working with your current capacity. Your goals are worth trying for, every day.
Building your toolbox
We'll work together to build a toolbox that works for you - finding what drives you, what rewards you, and what gets you back on track when things fall apart. Progress isn't always linear. We track what matters to you, and we acknowledge every step forward.
Empathetic but no-nonsense
Empathetic doesn't mean soft. I've been the person who hated exercise, who felt overwhelmed walking into a gym, who got told to just push through it. I know that doesn't work long term. We'll still be doing the work - just with a realistic understanding of what is an excuse versus what is a reason.
How we can work together
Whether you prefer training in-person or need the flexibility of online coaching, we can find a solution that works for your needs.
